Enfurl, Unfold

Enfurl, Unfold brought together the work of artists participating in the Freelands Foundation Studio Fellowship programme, presenting a range of interdisciplinary practices developed through the fellowship period. The exhibition explored ideas of transformation, process, material inquiry, and the gradual unfolding of artistic research over time, reflecting the diverse approaches of the exhibiting artists.

As part of the exhibition, Edie Evans presented sculptural and material-led works developed through ongoing research into clay, landscape, ecology, and embodied making. Working with gathered earth, raw clay, found materials, and natural processes, the work considered how materials hold traces of movement, erosion, touch, and memory. Central to the practice is an interest in clay as both a physical material and a carrier of ecological and human histories.

Developed during her time as Freelands Studio Fellow at Swansea College of Art, the work reflected an expanded engagement with site-responsive practice, material experimentation, and sustainable approaches to making. Installed alongside the practices of the other fellows, Enfurl, Unfold created a shared space for dialogue around process-led research, material transformation, and contemporary interdisciplinary practice.
