BRITISH CERAMICS BIENNIAL, TALENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

The British Ceramics Biennial Talent Development Mentorship Programme supported seven early-career artists who have faced barriers progressing in their careers and accessing professional networks within contemporary ceramics. Over six months, the programme provided tailored mentoring, peer support, and space to develop new work and ideas within a vibrant national ceramics context.

During the programme, I was mentored by ceramic artist and educator CJ O’Neill, whose guidance supported my career and practice development. Our conversations focused on building confidence in navigating the ceramics field, reflecting on my values as a material-led artist, and exploring pathways to grow my sustainable and community-engaged approach.

A key highlight of the programme was collaborating with filmmaker Gordon Watt on a bespoke artist film. This short film captures my studio environment, current works in progress, and the tactile, process-led nature of my practice. It offers an intimate insight into the way I work with raw materials and the rhythms of making.

The programme culminated in sharing new work and conversations within the BCB community, helping to build invaluable connections with other artists, curators, and craftspeople across the UK.

A mentoring programme supporting emerging artists across the UK to develop their practice, build networks, and explore new directions in contemporary ceramics.
